END OF LIFE DOULA SERVICES
What is an end-of-life doula?
An end-of-life doula is a non-medical support person who is trained in and experienced in providing assistance to people with a life limiting diagnosis or those at the end of their life. This support can also include friends and family members. For those close to a person looking after and caring for someone who is dying can be confronting and challenging.
As an end-of-life-doula I can assist individuals and their family and friends through this end-of-life ‘journey’ in several ways. For example, ensuring the experience is a holistic one for them and their family, providing advocacy to ensure their needs and wishes can be fulfilled and provide a continuum of support throughout the stages towards the end-of-life transition, advising of options available in the care for the duration of the illness as well as after death.
As an end-of-life doula I understand the changing needs within the journey towards end-of-life and am able to assist in the planning of these changing needs to ensure a smooth transition through these changes for all those involved.
The ultimate aim of an EOLD is to assist the person and their family and friends to feel safe and supported during this important transition.
